Ronin

The Ronin class was a type of explorer that saw service with the Federation Starfleet during the 24th century.

The Ronin entered service during the 2370s to serve as a smaller counterpart to the larger Sovereign-class. Many of its components mirrored that of its larger cousin. The Ronin was designed with a focus towards scientific exploration rather then combat operations. The ship's rear pod was changeable allowing for mission specific pods to be used such as a weapons' pod, sensor pod or colony pod. The Ronin was designed to replace the aging Nebula class, and carry out her duties.

After the end of the Dominion War, Starfleet had to replace an unprecedented number of ships that were destroyed or damaged beyond repair. The production yards were working at full steam to replace the losses. The Ronin class with its structure and its nearly 700 m length, a direct descendant of the Sovereign class design. The enormous size is to give the Insignia class like impression. The first thought when you see the ship should be, that one should think twice to attack it. As in the previous classes of space ships, for example is the nebula, called the New Orleans and Springfield, Ronin ships have an interchangeable mission modules that can be fitted depending on requirements. While mounted in the standard version, only the Mainpod, or the sensor pod is, there are versions of it into a cargo van to make an emergency field hospital or a huge science lab to make. Replace. In addition to the tried and true design of ship classes, such as the Excelsior, Galaxy, Akira, and other new classes of ships were constructed. One is the Ronin class that was launched in 2378. The ships of the Ronin class are designed as a patrol ships, which are smaller than the Sovereign class, but have the same fire power and complete specific missions.

While in previous decades, the Nebula class was considered as the backbone for scientific research, they will be replaced in future by the Ronin class. The Ronin coupled with the Luna and Nova Class starships will make a formidable science and exploration group for Starfleet.
